Introduction
For years there have been reports world wide, of encounters with strange man-beasts. They are most commonly described as very tall, 6 to 8 feet in height, completely covered in hair and with long arms and large feet. Often reported too, are their glowing eyes and pungent odour. Man has given these creatures many names over the years. Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Yeti being the most famous. Although elusive and mysterious, there is a wealth of evidence available in favour of their existence and experts now agree on there being a certain amount of logic behind the argument that an unknown species of hominid could be living in various parts of the world.
However, when it comes to a country like Britain, small, overcrowded and with precious few wild areas left, sightings of a man-like creature become a little harder to digest. But it is with a steady and unnerving regularity that reported encounters continue to come in.
Since the “man-monkey of Ranton”, in 1879 and through to the more recent, “Bolam Bigfoot”, there have been countless sightings of hairy, ape-like creatures roaming Britain’s countryside.
As in other parts of the world, various theories have been put forward to explain these encounters. Some remain firmly in the flesh ‘n’ blood camp, while others believe that something more supernatural maybe responsible.
Whatever the answer, these elusive “wildmen” and their habitats, deserve serious research and most of all, our total respect for their possible existence.
